Q1: How do I measure for curtains?
Start by measuring the width of the curtain track or pole, not the window. If you have a track, measure its entire length. For a pole, measure the width excluding the finials. Ensure the curtains will cover the window adequately when drawn.
Q2: What is the recommended fullness ratio for curtains?
The fullness ratio depends on the type of curtain. For pencil/pinch/inverted box pleat curtains, a fullness ratio of 3 times the pole or track width is recommended. Eyelet and rod pocket curtains require less fullness, generally 2 times the pole width.
Q3: How do I measure the drop for curtains?
The drop should be measured from the top of the track or the top of the pole for eyelets. For sills, measure 1,5 cm above the sill, and for floor-length curtains, about 1,5 cm above the floor. For radiators, curtains should clear them by 2 to 3 cm.
Q6: What are common mistakes to avoid when measuring?
Common mistakes include not accounting for obstructions like handles, not checking the window for levelness, and ignoring that windows may not be perfectly square. Always double-check measurements.
